Regions
When you talk about regions, you are basically talking about the capitol(s), other cities, and states. Regions are important because they help with identifying places in an area. For example, you would know what area I was talking about if I said something about New York City, New York. But if I said "this one place by that thing", you would have no idea what I was talking about or what area this "thing" was in. In Lower Egypt, its capitol is "Pe" and in Upper Egypt, its capitol is "Nekhem". When Egypt was united again by King Menes, he chose Memphis as the capitol of Egypt.
